RADA has spent the past year or more putting the strategic, financial and business building blocks in place to ensure that – as the non-profit organisation breaks new ground to combat addiction and abuse – they will take significant steps towards ensuring a thriving South Africa.
RADA is already taking positive, meaningful and effective action against these major challenges facing all levels of South African society. And now RADA is ready to take the next major step in the development of their five-year plan.
The founder of RADA is John-Paul Nobrega – a passionately committed South African who has taken seriously the call for citizen activism by establishing RADA with the aim of creating a healthier, safer and more prosperous South Africa. After years of repeatedly hearing and reading about the ever-increasing statistics in violent crimes and the impact of rape, alcohol, drugs and abuse on South African businesses – he felt compelled to take action.
Nobrega says:
“The statistics around addiction and abuse are horrifying. But something that seems to get lost in all the initiatives that attempt to tackle this enormous problem in our society is the impact both of these have on South African business.
The fact of the matter is that addiction fuels crime and 60% of crimes in South Africa are related to substance abuse. Crime fuels a lack of business confidence. A wavering business confidence index fuels a flailing economy. And we all know what that does to the bottom line of a business.”
For Nobrega and his team at RADA – which includes Jacqueline Gilbert, a personal growth and transformation facilitator – the impact of abuse and addiction on the economy goes even further.
“Business owners know that alcohol and drug-related absenteeism is rife; that South Africa’s addiction to drugs and alcohol not only hinders personal growth, but also the much needed entrepreneurial spirit and productivity that our country needs.”
Details of the roll-out of RADA Renewal Centres will be revealed at the gala dinner, which will also be attended by government representatives and potential and existing partners in the RADA centres. Prime Circle, Lira as well as other artists will be performing at the Media Launch.
