Rainbow Star Makers is a pre-school located in Lapologang, Marikana in the Northwest Province.
Founded in 2003 by Mokgethi Rebecca, Rainbow Star Makers was created in response to a clear need she identified within her community. Her objective was to provide quality early learning education for the toddlers and pre-primary school children in the informal settlement. The pre-school prepares its learners for Grade 1, helping them transition confidently into the mainstream education system.
The school welcomes thirty-six children each day and is run by a dedicated team of nine staff members, including an administrator, cook, ECD educator, three caregivers and volunteers.
Operating costs such as staff stipends, food for daily meals and electricity are covered through the modest fees contributed by parents, many of whom are migrant workers who came to Marikana seeking employment opportunities on the mines.
Every child benefits from the nutritious meals provided at the pre-school, ensuring they receive essential daily nourishment.
RADA was introduced to Rainbow Star Makers in July 2025 and recognized it as a place where we could provide meaningful support. With the help of sponsors, we are now contributing to the school’s feeding program, ensuring that vulnerable children receive the nutrition they need. RADA will continue to assess and assist with the needs of Rainbow Star Makers Pre-School, its staff, students and the broader community.
