Manyeleti Primary School is a public primary school located in the rural area of Gothenburg in Mpumalanga. It serves 439 students with a dedicated staff of thirteen qualified teachers and five assistant teachers. The school caters to a large catchment area that includes the communities of Hlabekisi, Hlalakahle, Thulani and Tama.
The school was established in 1964 and holds historical significance for the Mnisi Clan who were the first settlers in the area. The name ‘Manyeleti’ translates to “Place of the Stars.” Mrs. Tsakane Motubatse is the current principal of the school; equipped with three blocks of nine classrooms, an ablution centre and a borehole for water supply.
Given its rural location, the learners are not exempt from paying school fees; however, only a small percentage of parents can afford the costs.
The school is dedicated to championing excellence and fostering a passion for mathematics and science. Extramural activities include netball, soccer, traditional dance, debate and a Spelling B competition designed to enhance children’s spelling and reading skills. A notable program is the Tshitsonga Reading Championship, a competition that encourages students to speak and read their vernacular, promoting the local language.
All the students benefit from meals provided by the school’s kitchen, ensuring that every child has access to nutritious food daily.
There is an active School Governing Body at Manyeleti that meets regularly.
RADA was introduced to Manyeleti Primary School in February 2023 and recognized it as a place where we could provide meaningful support. With the help of sponsors, we are now contributing to the school’s feeding program, ensuring that vulnerable children receive the nutrition they need. RADA will continue to assess and assist with the needs of Manyeleti Primary, its staff, students and the broader community.
