RADA was invited on a fact-finding trip in 2019 and visited the small town of Philippolis in the Free State. The three-day excursion, sponsored by Tiger Canyon, Kia South Africa and AGT Foods was aimed at investigating various ways in which RADA and Tiger Canyon could work together to support the small rural community.
Philippolis is the oldest settlement in the Free State and is situated near Colesburg. It has a high unemployment rate, leading to many issues, including excessive drug and alcohol abuse.
After visiting the town and meeting with various leaders and representatives, RADA decided to introduce the community to the RADA MiPad Project. During 2020 the RADA team handed out 400 RADA MiPad packs to the Grade 7 and high school girls. Now an annual event on the RADA calendar aimed to empower the girls living in the very remote town.
Going forward RADA will provide assistance to Philippolis with the help of sponsors, which includes monthly food donations. With the support of the Tiger Canyon staff, RADA will continue to assess and assist with the needs of the community.
