Due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa and more specifically South Africa we are seeing an increase in Child Headed Households (CHH). Adults and/or guardians are absent. Where in the past orphans were traditionally absorbed by members of the extended family this option in many cases no longer exists and children are left to fend for themselves. These children are viewed as vulnerable and have very definite psycho-social problems which cannot be ignored.
RADA has committed to getting involved and supporting these very issues. Working closely with Sandown High School who are dealing with a number of these children living in the Alexander Township area. RADA with the help of food sponsors AGT Foods are delivering monthly hampers to the school who very discreetly ensure that these children are cared for.
Living conditions and general home maintenance are not a priority for any child but need to be continually addressed. RADA under the RADA CARE banner will assist with these issues along with furnishings, clothing, toiletries etc.
RADA Training Academy (RTA) is standing by to offer a variety of courses to these children once they complete matric. RTA will also assist with career guidance, CV writing, interview preparation etc. a helping hand to set them on a positive life path and encouraging them to be responsible adults and guide them in making informed choices.
RADA will encourage these young and successful adults to share their journey and encourage others to work hard and live positive and productive lives.
