July marks RADA’s annual “Tough Times” Awareness Month, a heartfelt campaign focused on empathy, support and community upliftment. As individuals and as a nation, we are all navigating our own set of challenges.
From sleepless nights spent worrying about bills to the emotional weight of caring for loved ones or the pressure of demanding workdays, every struggle, no matter how small, deserves recognition and empathy. RADA encourages a collective shift toward greater awareness and compassion, reminding us that even the smallest actions can bring relief, comfort and hope to those facing tough times.
We do not live in an ideal world and hardship is often a silent companion for many. By recognising the burdens others carry, we open the door to compassion, connection and shared strength. Whether through a kind word, a warm meal, or a small act of generosity, we affirm that no one is truly alone and that even the hardest times will eventually pass.
Having empathy defines our humanity. Our ability to care for and uplift each other builds the foundation for stronger, more connected communities. During July, we invite you to look around your neighbourhood and take small but meaningful steps to assist, whether by donating to a shelter, supporting a local NGO, or simply listening with an open heart.
RADA is proud to lead by example. In 2024, thanks to the continued support of our dedicated RADA Angels, we expanded our reach to 38 homes, centres and projects across Gauteng, Limpopo, Free State, Mpumalanga and Northwest Provinces — up from 34 in 2023. These include old age homes, orphanages, schools, places of safety, and shelters for the homeless and physically or mentally challenged. Every month, RADA distributes over 700 essential items and 8,000 kilograms of food to those who need it most.
The rise in support is a sobering reflection of the growing hardship faced by many in South Africa. Yet, it is also a powerful reminder of the importance of unity. Let us keep the spirit of Ubuntu alive: I am what I am because of who we all are.
Let July be the month we recommit to kindness, to caring and to being present for one another. Positive change doesn’t always come from grand gestures, often it begins with a single act of compassion.
Be the Way …Be the Change …One Day at a Time.
