May 2026: Shifting Behaviour to Address Bullying.

In May, the RADA Inspire campaign focuses on the role individuals play in shaping behaviour around bullying.

Words carry weight. They can build confidence and connection, or they can cause harm that lasts far beyond the moment. Across schools, workplaces and online spaces, bullying continues to affect individuals of all ages and backgrounds. It takes many forms, from verbal and physical behaviour to cyber harassment and social exclusion, each with serious and lasting consequences.

In South Africa, millions of learners are affected each year, with many choosing not to report their experiences. The growth of digital platforms has further extended the reach of bullying, making it harder to escape and more difficult to confront.

The issue involves three key roles: the bully, the person being bullied and the bystander. Each plays a part in either sustaining or changing the outcome.

Those who bully often act from a place of insecurity or unresolved issues, using control or aggression to assert themselves. This behaviour remains unacceptable. Strength is demonstrated through self-awareness, discipline and respect for others.

For those experiencing bullying, the message is clear: your value is not defined by the behaviour of others. There is strength in speaking up, in seeking support and in refusing to accept harmful treatment.

For those who witness it, silence has impact. Choosing not to act allows the behaviour to continue. Taking a stand, offering support or speaking out can shift the situation and protect others.

RADA continues to address this issue through its anti-bullying campaign, distributing targeted video content to high schools across South Africa. Since its launch, the initiative has reached 1,227,591 learners, promoting empathy, accountability and respectful communication.

The 2026 RADA Inspire campaign places emphasis on behaviour and accountability. Choose words carefully. Challenge harmful behaviour. Support those affected. Small, deliberate positive actions influence how others experience their environment.

RADA calls on individuals and communities to take responsibility for how they engage with one another. Consistent, respectful behaviour creates safer and more supportive environments for all.
