RADA encourages society to rethink perspectives, fostering awareness that leads to positive mindset shifts and constructive behaviour changes.
March marks the launch of the 2025 RADA Inspire campaign, focusing on road safety by raising awareness, initiating conversations, and exploring practical solutions to reduce accidents and save lives.
In 2024, South Africa recorded 10,154 road fatalities, with pedestrians accounting for 41% of these deaths, primarily in Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. These alarming statistics highlight the urgent need for collective action to improve road safety and prevent further loss of life.
To address this crisis, RADA developed the RASI project, an interactive initiative designed to teach communities—especially young children—how to cross roads safely. The RASI animated video, featuring the friendly Road Awareness and Safety Instructor (RASI), was introduced to schools in 2023 in collaboration with the South African Police Service and Community Policing Forums. Endorsed by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the video continues to be widely distributed across Southern Africa, providing thousands with essential road safety skills.
To date, RASI has reached 910,943 learners in 2,324 schools across 17 regions, making a tangible impact on road safety awareness.
By making road safety education engaging and accessible, RADA is working towards a future where every pedestrian is empowered to navigate roads safely.
