September is a time to celebrate South Africa’s rich and diverse heritage. Our languages, traditions, beliefs and histories shape who we are, but heritage is not defined only by what we inherit. It is also reflected in how we choose to carry it forward.
Across South Africa, our individual stories are different, yet they form part of a shared national identity. Understanding where we come from helps us appreciate the experiences of others, while respect for different cultures and traditions allows diversity to become a source of connection rather than division. We strengthen our collective identity when we recognise both what makes us unique and what we share.
Central to this is the spirit of Ubuntu. Its principle of shared humanity reminds us that our actions affect those around us. Heritage comes alive when these values shape our behaviour, when we listen to different perspectives, treat others with respect and choose to contribute positively to the communities we share.
RADA puts these principles into action through the RADA CARE programme, providing consistent support to vulnerable communities across South Africa. With the help of sponsors and partners, food and essential supplies are distributed monthly to more than 15,390 individuals through RADA’s network of 45 adopted homes, centres and projects across five provinces. This ongoing commitment demonstrates what can be achieved when individuals and organisations work together towards a shared purpose.
