Boitshepo Day Care Centre

Boitshepo (meaning ‘Holy’ in Tswana) Day Care Centre is situated in Nooitgedachet, just outside Honeydew, Gauteng.  It was established by resident teacher Collins Kgomoeswana in 2010.

The non-profit is run by five staff, which includes one ECD (Early Childhood Development) teacher and four caregivers.  They currently take care of 67 children who live in the area, consisting of approximately 260 households.  Monthly expenses are a challenge as parents living in this impoverished community don’t always have the means to pay school fees.  Mr. Kgomoeswana tragically passed away at the end of  2021, Cecilia his widow continues to run the Centre.

The children who attend Boitshepo are divided according to their developmental level of learning, with 20 children in each class.  There are currently 15 grade R pupils who will move on to primary school next year.

Cecilia currently runs ECD programmes at the centre and with the support of sponsors has further developed the property by building a class for an aftercare programme. This is for children who already attend school and need assistance with homework and additional life skills guidance.

RADA was introduced to the Centre by Imagine.Nation, a non-profit founded by young South Africans who much like RADA, work and believe in changing the world in a positive way. After visiting the premises and meeting the staff, RADA has committed to assist and offer support where needed. With the help of sponsors, we will continue to assess and assist with the needs of the centre, it’s staff and the learners.
