During May, RADA draws attention to bullying which is an ever-increasing global issue. Bullying is fear driven behaviour which takes on many forms including physical, verbal, cyber and social abuse.
Over the past few years there has been a rapid expansion of online harassment due to the growth in internet use and the popularity of various social media platforms. Cowardly perpetrators seek to intimidate, control, manipulate and humiliate others while hiding behind their screens.
Bullies believe that using aggressive behaviour towards others is the most effective way to build their self-esteem. Although we recognize the fact that there may be underlying issues contributing to the negative behaviour being portrayed by bullies, it is fundamentally unacceptable. True strength does not come from putting others down.
It takes an immense amount of courage to stand up and speak out instead of ignoring and accepting the bad behaviour of others. It is not an easy journey, but it is important to remember that you are never alone. Lean on your support network and find your strength. Keep your self-worth intact by remembering that the bully is the one with the issue. You have it within you to stand your ground, take back your power and move forward.
When one observes any form of bullying behaviour towards others, do not conveniently turn a blind eye to what’s happening. Bullies should be called out; it is essential that they be held accountable for their actions.
In general, we should focus on shifting our thoughts and behaviour towards others to be more supportive. RADA encourages you to make a daily determined effort to be kind to just one person and encourage them to do the same. Be mindful of the words you use when communicating with those around you, it costs nothing to be kinder. Together we are able to create positive change in the world and make a difference to the lives of many.
Be the Way …Be the Change …One Day at a Time.
